Physical and Chemical PropertiesChemical colorless liquid with fresh bergamot, herbs and citrus aromas. Boiling point 202 ℃, flash point 87.5 ℃. Soluble in ethanol and most non-volatile oils, slightly soluble in propylene glycol and water, insoluble in glycerol. Natural products exist in white lemon, orange leaf, peach, lavender, etc.
UseUse Appropriate amount is shared with linalyl acetate, and it also has a sweetening effect. It is used for citrus to raise bergamot and lemon flavor. It is also suitable for vegetarian orchid, fragrant Wei, cologne and certain floral, aldehydes, and fruit flavor. Linalyl formate - Uses and synthesis methods

Introduction

Linalyl formate scientific name Formic acid -3, 7-dimethyl-1, 6-octadiene -3-ester, colorless to light yellow liquid, has a fruity-rose aroma like bergamot oil. Linalool formate is greener than linalool, but the aroma is better.

linalyl formate is often used to prepare floral flavors such as ylang ylang, clove, orange blossom and jasmine. The aroma of linalyl formate is relatively clear and sharp. Appropriate amount of linalyl acetate has a tuning effect, and it also has a sweet effect. It is used in oranges to improve bergamot and lemon aroma. It is also suitable for vegetarian orchid, Fragrant Wei, cologne and certain floral, aldehyde, and fruit-flavored formulas. Edible, flavors such as pineapple, apricot, peach, apple and various berries are also available.

Toxicity

According to the information provided by RIFM, acute toxicity data of linalyl formate: oral LD50>5g/kg (rats), skin test LD50>5g/kg (rabbits).

linalyl formate is recognized as GRAS by FEMA, FEMA No. 2642, and approved by FDA for consumption. The European Council has listed linalyl formate in the list of artificial edible flavors that can be used in food and are harmless to human health. Its ADI is 0.25 mg/kg, which can be used in the formulation of edible flavors.

Preparation

Prepared by the esterification of linalool and formic acid. The 1:1mol ratio of formic acid and sodium formate is reacted in the presence of acetic anhydride to form sodium diformate. The mixture is added to the system of 1mol linalool, 1.2mol sodium diformate and a small amount of acetic anhydride. After the reaction is over at about 40 ℃, it is placed at room temperature, washed with water overnight, neutralized with 5% Na2CO3, separated in layers, extracted with benzene water twice, combined with organic layers, and fractionated under reduced pressure to obtain the product.
